Shane Breen
Decades of Elite Experience
Born in Limerick, Shane Breen’s equestrian journey began with his first pony at the age of five. He represented Ireland at the Pony International level, becoming a European Silver Medallist. This early success granted him the rare opportunity to train deeply at Nelson Pessoa’s yard in Europe—a foundational experience that refined his absolute precision and profound understanding of the sport.
Progressing rapidly through the Junior and Young Riders ranks, Shane became a linchpin of the Senior Irish National Team. He has represented Ireland at numerous European and World Championships, delivering crucial clear rounds that secured victories in prestigious Nations Cups, including historic wins at Dublin and Hickstead. Shane often cites his legendary double clear on World Cruise in the Aga Khan Trophy at Dublin in 2006 as one of his most defining moments in the ring.
"You can be sure that even if Shane doesn’t have the horse you need, he knows where it is."
In 2007, Shane married Chloe, daughter of Hickstead founder Douglas Bunn. Today, they are based at the historic venue in Sussex, managing an international equestrian empire alongside their four children: Lorna, Darcy, Douggie, and Wolftone.
